Henri Parmentier room 1919 is one of the rooms inspired by one of the historical figures. The room is located a little bit hidden on the corner of the Royal Angkor dining room, inspired from the dedication of French archaeologists who have preserved the Cham tribe artifacts, namely Henri Parmentier.
Henri Parmentier is an archaeologist, and also a well-known senior historian from France who help to save Cham tribe artifacts. His interest in the world of archeology began with his participation while working with the colonial government in Tunisia to he lp restore Saturn's Temple in Dougga. His role here got recognition at the Société des Artistes Français exhibition. Parmentier decided to join archaeologist Henri Dufour and photographer Charles
Carpeaux in an archaeological mission in 1900 in Indochina to design, describe, publish and preserve Cham monuments in Vietnam: a Buddhist temple complex Đồng Dương (1902). Parmentier also learned architecture to compare it with the Cham architectural style. In 1904, Parmentier also became the head of the École fra nçaise d'Extrême-Orient department of Archeology and during his tenure, Parmentier remained active in preserving the Cham artifacts.
The École française d'Extrême-Orient (EFEO) Department of Ecology suggested a plan to build the Cham Sculpture Museum in Da Nang in 1902 and at that time Parmentier also took a big role in the construction of the museum. The first museum building opened in 1919 was designed by French architects, M. Deleval and M. Auclair who used some traditional Champ elements in building design, inspired by Henri Parmentier dedication.
Inspired by the deed and dedication of Parmentier in protecting and preserving Cham tribal artifacts, the 1919 Henri Parmentier room contains a collection of antique of Indochina countries to reminiscing the forgotten history.
